Pride Responsible For Your Political Misery – Theodore Orji & Orji Kalu Engages In War of Words
Former Governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu has sworn that he would have nothing again to do with his successor and political godson, Senator Theodore Orji…
Theodore Orji & Orji Uzor Kalu
The political face-off between two former governors of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Theodore Orji, was re-ignited on Sunday, September 18, as they hauled verbal missiles at each other.
Kalu was the first to throw a punch at his successor when he said he had forgiven Orji but would not forget how he dealt with him, adding that he will never have anything to do with him again in life.
The Igbere-born ex-governor made the remarks while responding to an apology by some of Orji’s supporters who was led by the traditional prime minister of Ibeku Land, Chief Uche Akwukwuegbu and some individuals in Ibeku land.
Among those who apologised to Kalu were the paramount ruler of Ibeku kingdom, Eze Samuel Onuoha; former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Chairman of Orji’s campaign organisation in 2011, Chief Tony Ukasanya, Chief Laz Onwuneme (Igwe Ohuhu), and contractor, Chief Smart Ejelonu.
Kalu was hosted in Akwukwuegbu’s house on Friday where the affected individuals begged him to forgive them for abandoning him in support of Orji, their kinsman in the course of the political face-off.
“We are very sorry for all our weaknesses and sins against you. We know how you defied all odds and invested your resources to make our son, Theodore Orji, the governor. We apologise to you and ask for your forgiveness for all we did against you rather than being grateful to you,” Akwukwaegbu said.
But in a swift response, Orji disowned Akwukwuegbu and his friends, saying he never sent anyone to beg Kalu on his behalf. He said Akwukwuegbu and his co- travellers had no authority to speak for Ibeku people, and urged the public to disregard them.
The Senator who spoke in Umuahia, said he had also forgiven Kalu but would not forget how he treated him while he was governor.
Orji , who bared his mind through his Media Adviser, Don Norman Obinna, debunked Kalu’s boasting that he (Kalu) made him (Orji) governor, asking rhetorically, “Kalu and I who made the other governor?”.
He said Kalu never showed respect for Orji as governor but treated him as if he were his stooge. Continuing he said, “If he has the magic wand to make people governor, why is it he hasn’t made himself senator?
“Kalu wants to assume the role of God, hence he is struggling to be a senator without success. When Orji was the governor, Kalu and his family members were the de facto governor who wanted to control everybody. Kalu is always good in lying , and he can never be trusted”, Orji said.
Descending on his kinsmen who rendered the purported apologies to Kalu, the senator dismissed them as unstable political prostitutes tossed about by their bellies, adding that Akwukwuegbu was a frustrated ingrate who bit the fingers that fed him.
He said it was unfortunate that Akwukwuegbu who had never executed any identifiable contract until he emerged as governor and awarded many contracts to him could turn his back on him.
“I made BAWS (Akwukwuegbu) contractor and gave him many contracts for the state government. He was living in Ivory Coast without any means of livelihood until I made him.”
“It’s a surprise that a king of Ibeku land as he claims could leave his palace and go to another man’s house to receive and apologise to Kalu.
“How was it that he was the only traditional ruler out of the many autonomous communities in Ibeku land at the event? It is a shame that a king will leave his palace because of money.
“A real king never leaves his palace. No wonder Kalu gave him a car. He is always ready to praise any politician willing to give him what he eats”, said Orji.
Concerning Ukasanya, Orji expressed surprise that his former campaign manager decided to court Kalu again after having earlier fallen out with with him, likening it to a proverbial dog going back to its vomit.
Orji said Ukasanya was greedy and only decided to abandon him because of his insatiable demands.
The former governor said he was giving the former PDP BoT member N1 million monthly when he was in office in addition to contracts he awarded to him. “Ohiyya people should ask Ukasanya who handled the Ohiyya electricity project”, Orji said.
The Senator dismissed Igwe Ohuhu as “a political thug who wanted to extend his kingdom to Umuokpara”, saying he is only working for his stomach.
Orji said Akwukwuegbu and his co-travelers were angry with him because of his vehement support for power shift to Abia South.
