PDP Governors Plan To Create New Party
As the frosty relationship in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) becomes endless, there are plans by the governors on the platform to dump the party for Ali Modu Sheriff, according to a report by Breaking Times.
The governors are planning to set up a new party ahead of 2019 when the country is expected to hold a general election.
The governors are believed to be wooing some other stakeholders in the party as well as politicians from across the country. The leadership crisis in the party has lingered since it lost the 2015 general elections. The governors settled for Sheriff.
However, the crisis persisted especially when the governors turned their backs on the former governor of Borno state with allegations that he is linked to the Boko Haram terrorism or that he has a plan to corner the party in favour of his presidential ambition in 2019.
An attempt to oust him has resulted various court cases for and against the governors and the party. Efforts by the Ahmed Makarfi committee to resolve the crisis has proven abortive so far.
The report said though, the meeting to reconcile the warring factions of the party was ongoing, the governors may have adopted forming a new party as a better option to the crisis. It also said the Sheriff faction is aware of this plan by the governors and is threatening to legally stop it.
According to its quoted source, “If the governors should try it, they will have serious issues to contend with in court. We will take them to court.” Meanwhile, former Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun state has advised the two warring factions of the party to work together, adding that the road to victory does not have diversion.
