Jumia Nigeria Is Launching Jumia Local To Sell Made-in-Nigeria Products

Jumia Nigeria is marking Nigeria’s 56th independence day anniversary this year by introducing an online store dedicated to products made in Nigeria. They’re calling it Jumia Local and the official launch is this Saturday, October 1, 2016 .

Jumia Local is Jumia’s way of supporting local entrepreneurs and brands that manufacture or assemble their products in Nigeria. Merchants on the site will be able to sell their products on at 0% commission, and their products will be promoted through Jumia’s marketing channels (social media accounts, mobile apps, billboards, and radio).

Jumia is calling this a social responsibility initiative that’s aimed at growing the local economy. According to Bili Sule , Head of Business Development, Jumia Nigeria, “To build a sustainable and healthy ecosystem for Nigeria, we need to focus on products made in Nigeria. The change starts with each and everyone of us and Jumia will lead the way by taking the responsibility to promote our own Nation’s products.”

As expected, vendors that want to sell on Jumia Local must have their products made or assembled in Nigeria. Another condition is that they have to sell online exclusively through Jumia for the first six months

Good day Nigerians. My name is Yewande Adekoya-Abiodun. I am a happily married movie producer, screenwriter and actress. I have been practising since 2002 and i am presently a bonafide member of Tampan. I want to beg Nigerians all over the world to please help me tell Akeem Olatunji Balogun (Olasco films) to leave my life alone. If anything bad happens to me, Nigerians, please hold Akeem Olatunji Balogun responsible.
He has marketed my movies for about six years now and i have nothing to show for it financially. I do not even have a car of my own. He sold igbodudu 1&2, omo elemosho1&2, kudi klepto1&2, Emere, Irawo meji and Kurukuru1,2,3. This man is presently owing me the sum of 2million naira and he has refused to pay because he feels no one can challenge him. He has been owing me since 2014. When he owes you, you dare not ask for your money, if you do, he will start war just like the one he has just started. He is also not the type that signs a contract due to his dubious character. He prefers verbal agreements.
He is very influencial in the yoruba movie market, so it is almost a waste of time to report him to anyone there. I know this because i had earlier reported him to several marketers who have good relationship with him, still no result. I called the president of the yoruba marketers association, he didn't pick my calls. I was eventually able to speak with his assistant who sympathised with me and then told me that little or nothing could be done about the matter. Olasco has humiliated and oppressed me for too long, and now, i feel it's time to speak up.
The last business deal i had with him that really pissed me off was Kurukuru, a three part  movie i wrote and produced while i was 8months pregnant in 2015. He released kurukuru online and on DVD in nov 2015, and then claimed we didn't make any profit from the 3 releases of the movie despite the huge success record the movie had. I decided to keep mute about everything since last year. I decided to keep mute about everything since last year, because i do not like to fight anyone or make noise over anything whatsoever.
He sent me an embarrassing sum of N300, 000 which he believes should serve as my payment for Emere, Irawo meji and Kurukuru part1,2 and 3. I quietly moved on with my life and faced my work squarely,  but Mr Akeem Balogun will not let me be. He keeps oppressing and terrorising anyone i choose to do business with.
He even went as far as influencing movie marketers and some movie producers to stop casting me for movie roles. Why? What exactly did i do to you? What exactly do you want from me? Mr Akeem Olatunji Balogun please leave me alone, i refuse to be enslaved by you, like you enslave some others. You don't pay them and you also won't let them do business with other people. Maybe it's because i refused to date you even after all these years, that is why you are strongly determined to destroy me.
I serve a living God Mr Akeem and the God i serve will never allow darkness overcome light. Olasco films has refused to pay me my royalty for the three movies: Emere, Irawo meji and Kurukuru part1, 2, 3 and i have not yet taken him to court for that,  and he is here, strongly advocating against me doing business with other marketers and film distributors of my choice.
I know you are tough but my God is tougher than you. Don't try HIM. I still have the bounced cheque of 1million naira  that you gave me in 2011. May my God reward you accordingly. My beautiful fans and fellow Nigerians all over the world, pls help me tell this man to leave me alone oooooooooo if he does not want the wrath of God to descend on his entire household.

High Regards,
Bukola Ogunrinde

John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu has cut a niche for himself in the movie industry, notably for being a comedic actor, but in an interview with Punch, he has revealed that despite his commitment to making people to laugh, he has had cause to be unhappy, even bitter, on some occasions.

According to Okafor, negligence on the part of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) had a role to play in the 2011 death of his 2 year old son who had just been released from kidnappers. He was so bitter that he almost instituted a court action against the management of the hospital.

Read his ordeal after the cut.
“The matter was actually between the Paediatric Department of the hospital and me. It was in 2011. My wife and our two-year-old son had been kidnapped. After I paid the ransom demanded and they were released by the kidnappers, I returned to Lagos from Enugu.

“Then on January 18, 2011, my son fell ill.  He was diagnosed with inflammation of the liver. The hospital suggested that he should be scanned. At the same time, I was informed that I could take my son out of the hospital to get the scan done elsewhere. But the same people later declined, saying that everything had to be done in the hospital because he was too weak to be taken outside.

“After a while, I was told that there was no electricity in the hospital. When I asked if there was no standby generator, they said there was no fuel in it. I offered to pay for fuel only to be told that the man that operated the generator was not around. When I left the place and got back later, the man still had not returned. Then I was advised to write an application and to submit to the admin department.”
After writing the application, Okafor found that there was nobody to receive and treat it. While he was waiting, he was told that his son’s condition required blood transfusion. The actor did everything possible to ensure that the ailing boy was given treatment at the hospital, but his efforts were in vain. Finally, the little boy gave up the ghost.
“That was how my son died. Later, one of the doctors came to me and, without even sympathising with me, asked if I could release my boy’s corpse to him so that they could cut it open and use it to teach other medical students. In that moment, I felt like committing murder for the first time in my life.

“When I told my lawyer what happened at the hospital, he was shocked. He said it was actionable. I told him that I was ready to take the hospital management to court and sue it for $100 million in damages because my son’s death was caused by the carelessness of the professionals whose duty was to save his life. But my lawyer advised me to let go”.

Mercy’s eyes was heavily lined with dark tones eyeshadow as she opted for a nude lipstick.

Almost a year after 2baba Idibia was awarded the title of the ‘Tafidan Kudendan’ of Kudendan (which means the Ambassador of Peace) by HRH, the Galadima of Kudendan, the legendary singer has now been recognised yet again for his peace movement by the Ooni of Ife.

According to Olori Supergal, the legendary singer was honoured yesterday by the Ife monarch for his #VoteNotFight campaign during electoral periods.

In 2015, the iconic singer, through his The 2face Foundation and a few other organisations, flagged off the ‘Vote Not Fight – Election No Be War’ campaign, advocating a peaceful electoral process.

2baba Idibia also dropped a song of same title, encouraging youths to not be used as pawns by those with ill-thoughts for the nation.

This movement earned the singer the chieftaincy title last year in Kaduna. And now, the famous Yoruba monarch, Ooni of Ife, has honoured him for the continual campaign.

It has been a decade since Lil Wayne and Toya Wright called it quits but their daughter, Regina Carter, still looks forward to when they would reunite again.

Yesterday, the 17-year-old shared a throwback photo of her parents with a heartfelt caption. It was a picture from when they were much younger; and still together.

“It won’t get no realer than this,” the teenager captioned it, adding, “sorry not sorry.”

The post has drawn massive reactions from folks, with many reaching out to the teenager who has always shown how much she loves her parents, notwithstanding their differences.

In April, Regina Carter got into a messy fight with a woman who claimed she was carrying Wayne’s child.

According to The Shade Room, the new woman, Bonita who allegedly was a former pornstar, had a fling with the rapper and got pregnant. Apparently, the rapper cut her off and she took to Instagram, wishing Regina ill.

“I hope someone f**s your daughter in the a** and beat the shit outta her throat with their d**k and you’re dead or nowhere around to make sure it doesn’t happen,” Bonita had said, referring to Regina. The teenager’s mother, Toya Wright, then dragged the alleged pregnant woman in the messy feud.

Wayne had been busted having unprotected sex with strippers, but he maintains a cordial relationship with Toya. Recently, he was spotted with a new woman and now, his daughter wants a reunion with her mother.

Amber Rose is not happy with a judge’s comment about her on reality show, Dancing with the Stars and she is not being silent about it.In an upcoming episode of her show Loveline With Amber Rose, the 32-year-old Slut Walk founder opened up on how she felt body-shamed by a female judge after last performance on the show a few days ago.

According to her the judge, actress and dancer Julianne Hough, had told her she looked ‘uncomfortable’ during a part of her dance routine where she had to lift her leg up and her partner was to dip her.

Amber stated: “You know, all the beautiful professional dancers that are on Dancing With the Stars, I mean they dress very sexy and they do the splits and they grind up on these guys and they look absolutely stunning and get a standing ovation. And me, and my body, my hips, my ass, my breasts made her uncomfortable.”

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zayMPaJ-2RI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In a recent interview with The Cut, Amber opened up about her body image and how she has embraced her figure.
“People have to realize that the supermodels we see represent 5% or 3 % of the women in the world. It’s not realistic. It’s very realistic to have cellulite and saggy boobs—it’s just a part of being human,” she told the magazine.
Amber also pointed out that she tried to preach against body-shaming with her Slut Walk which combats women equality issues such as sexual injustice, victim blaming etc.
“I’ll probably never have the perfect body and I’m okay with that. As a celebrity now, I embrace it and I embrace my curves. I have a platform to help other women embrace it as well.” Amber added.
Meanwhile, the judge has addressed Amber’s statement and also clarified what she meant by her comment.

“My ‘uncomfortable’ comment was about the fact that I felt like I wanted more out of the performance – when someone is doing a hot, sexy dance like that without the right amount of energy that is required, it can be uncomfortable to watch.” She then chipped in that she is ALL for a sexy booty dance.

If there are two things the good state of Colorado in USA is known for, it’s beer and blunts. For well over a century, Coors has been churning out suds in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and since 2012, the Centennial State’s 900 dispensaries have been slinging roughly 121 tons of legal marijuana each year. Well, in 2015 a few geniuses decided to combine Colorado’s two main exports, and now the rest of the country may soon be able to get in on the fun.

According to KGW-TV, Dad and Dude’s Breweria—a company that claims to throw “a delicious wrench in the food and beer culture of Aurora’s and south Denver’s suburbs”—has created its own weed-infused beer, aptly named “General Washington’s Secret Stash.”

Though the “cannabeer,” as it’s commonly known, has been available at the brewery for about a year—drawing tourists from around the word—Dad and Dude’s is hoping that the super-chill draft will be canned in November and made available nationwide by January 2017.
According to Mason Hembree, the self-professed “Dude” behind Dad and Dude’s, drinking the cannabeer won’t get you high (“Not high and drunk. Maybe just drunk,” he told KGW). While the product seemed too good to be true, Secret Stash still had to wait a year to gain approval from the federal government.

Legal hurdles aside, Hembree also has a disapproving co-owner that wasn’t exactly keen on the idea of pot-laced booze in the first place—his “anti-alcohol, anti-pot mom.”

Though the IPA apparently doesn’t contain and THC (the psychoactive chemical in cannabis), it’s said to taste pretty damn good, and even Hembree’s mom, Judy, is starting to come around.

“I honestly don’t think it’s the big, evil thing that I always thought it was,” she said. “I’ve already had two.”

Jay Z just inked a major movie and TV deal with the S. Hov signed a two-year overall deal with the Weinstein Company Thursday that will give the studio first-look privileges on a variety of Jay projects, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Multiple projects are already in development and are expected to be announced shortly.

“I’m excited to tell stories from real-life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight,” Jay Z in a press release Thursday. “Harvey and David [Weinstein] are visionaries both of whom have done this time and time again. I’m already passionate about what we currently have in the pipeline and I’m looking forward to discovering others.”

The deal is said to include both scripted and unscripted TV and movie projects, all of which would have Jay rocking the producer title. Jay previously dipped into the world of cinema with production credits on Chris Rock’s hella underrated Top Five, The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and the 2014 Annie remake starring Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx.
“[Jay Z] approaches every aspect of his career with both determination and effortlessness, making him one of the leading power players in entertainment history,” Weinstein Company co-chair Harvey Weinstein told THR Thursday.
“We already have some exceptional projects in the works and are excited to see what more is to come.” With both Jay and Weinstein teasing scripted and unscripted content, the possibilities here are practically endless.

The preliminary rounds of the 2016 Cowbellpedia Secondary Schools Mathematics Television Quiz Show ended last weekend and produced 36 semi-finalists who are set to battle for the 12 slots in the finals of both Junior and senior categories.
Out of the 47,000 candidates that participated in the Stage 1 written examination of the competition, only 108 qualified for the Stage 2, a Television Quiz Show which started on July 31st, 2016. This was made up of 71 males (66%) and 37 females (34%).

Out of the 36 semi-finalists, there are 17 males (47%) and 19 females (53%). The breakdown of the figure shows that out of every 10 females that participated in the preliminary rounds, 5 females qualified, while out of 10 males that participated in the preliminary rounds, 2 males qualified for the
semi-finals. In 2016, to encourage Girl Child Education, the brand sponsor, Cowbell Our Milk made a humble appeal that Mixed Schools should nominate minimum two (2) girls for each category to represent such school. The above result validates the sponsor’s initiative.

Another outstanding highlight is that all the eight students that participated in the preliminary rounds from The Ambassadors College, Ota, Ogun State secured the semi-final tickets.

In the last preliminary episode aired last weekend, both Toyosi Olorunfemi of Model Secondary School, Ileasanmi, Akure, Ondo State and Usama Imam Auwal of Iqra Science Academy in the Junior category flew past Chinenye Ike of Federal Government College, Owerri, Imo State; Opeyemi Amee of University of Ilorin Secondary School, Ilorin, Kwara State; Emmanuel Olasoju of Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba, Lagos State; and Ibrahim sadi-Umar of Dutse Model International Secondary School, Dutse, Jigawa State.

In the Senior Category, the duo of Onyinye Okolie Graceville College, Asaba Delta State and Yusuf Jimoh of Federal Government College, Ilorin. Kwara State secured the semi-final tickets. They subdued Eustace Imafidon of Whitesands College, Lagos; Calistus Azuka of Monsignor Maduka Memorial Secondary School, Ekwulobia, Anambra State; Aminu Rimin of Kuntau Science Academy, Kaduna, Kaduna State; and Muhammed Suleiman of JIBWIS College, Gombe, Gombe State.
The ultimate prize for this year’s edition is One million naira and an all-expense paid educational excursion outside the country.

The teacher of the winning students will receive Four hundred thousand naira.

U.S President Barack Obama has finally explained why he doesn't ever use the term 'Islamic Terrorism' when describing deadly terrorist attacks carried out by ISIS, saying ISIS' activities affect all including Christians and Muslims.

Obama has been criticized by a lot of political observers and even Donald Trump for purposely refusing to refer to ISIS as Islamic terrorists, saying the U.S president has refused to acknowledge that the terror group use Islam to defend their wicked acts.
At a CNN presidential town hall meeting today, Obama was then asked to defend why he refused to say "Islamic" terrorism to a Gold Star mother.
"My son gave his life for acts of terrorism," audience member Tina Houchins told Obama at the meeting. "Do you still believe that the acts of terrorism are done for the self-proclaimed Islamic religious motive? And if you do, why do you still refuse to use the term ... Islamic terrorist?"
"There is no doubt, and I've said repeatedly, where we see terrorist organizations like al Qaeda or ISIL -- They have perverted and distorted and tried to claim the mantle of Islam for an excuse for basically barbarism and death," Obama explained.
"These are people who've killed children, killed Muslims, take sex slaves, there's no religious rational that would justify in any way any of the things that they do," he said. "But what I have been careful about when I describe these issues is to make sure that we do not lump these murderers into the billion Muslims that exist around the world, including in this country, who are peaceful, who are responsible, who, in this country, are fellow troops and police officers and fire fighters and teachers and neighbors and friends. If you had an organization that was going around killing and blowing people up and said, 'We're on the vanguard of Christianity.' As a Christian, I'm not going to let them claim my religion and say, 'you're killing for Christ.' I would say, that's ridiculous," Obama said.
"That's not what my religion stands for. Call these folks what they are, which is killers and terrorists," he added.
Obama then said that the danger of using the term 'Islamic Terrorism' stems from when  "a president or people aspiring to become president get loose with this language." to which CNN moderator Jake Tapper interjected saying he was referring to Donald Trump, but Obama denied that was the case.
Tapper interjected:
"You were clearly talking about the Republican nominee Donald Trump just then --"
"No, I wasn't," Obama dismissed Tapper swiftly. "It's not unique to the Republican nominee. Look, I'm trying to be careful, we're on a military base, I don't insert partisan politics into this. I think that there have been a number of public figures where you start hearing commentary that is dangerous. Because what it starts doing is it starts dividing us up as Americans."

Nigerian singer, Brymo has lamented in a new interview where he claimed he was not paid for his role in the biggest song of Ice Prince’s career ‘Oleku’.

The ‘Ara’ (Wonders) crooner made the shocking revelation in an exclusive interview with Sahara TV, where he claimed he was not paid by Chocolate City for the song which brought rapper, Ice Prince to limelight.

Speaking about it, he said:

“Remember Oleku right? I got no award for it. I was a fool, there was no contract”.

Speaking further, he said, as at that time, he was so broke, he basically lived off M.I another ex-label mae, who happens to be the president of Chocolate City now.

“Oleku was a pro-bono work for Chocolate City. I felt maybe because I didn’t have a contract and I was new, it was my trial period. So I signed a contract in April 2011 but nothing changed. The label didn’t provide money for upfront project recordings.

“But there’s always a way out of that. There are other musicians on the label. MI was the first to blow up and he had gotten a place. In that period, I was always at MI’s place.”

“In the case of the record label, the contract and the court injunction, it’s a show of shame. People will always smile at you when you do what they want. I was not in court when the injunction was given. If that’s how it is done in law, then we should scrap the entire constitution.

“Fortunately, it didn’t last very long. Eventually they removed it. Their aim was to prevent me from putting out my ‘Merchant, Dealers and Slaves’ album.

“Nobody will like it if I go back to Chocolate City. Certain things can never be really mended. You just have to go your separate ways. I’ve had more peace in the last few years”.
